NS-Shaft is a platform game in which the player attempts to descend into a cave. There are two controls, which move the player to the left and the right. The platforms move up the screen at a constant rate. A ceiling of spikes hovers at the top of the screen. The goal is to fall from platform to platform rapidly enough to not be hit by the spikes, but slowly enough not to fall off the bottom of the screen. In this way, NS-Shaft is the exact opposite of its sister game, NS-Tower.
There are two ways to die: by hitting too many spikes and running out of health, or falling off the bottom of the screen. Hitting spikes (either on the ceiling, or on a platform) reduces the player’s amount of health, while landing on an ordinary platform increases the player’s health.
NS-Shaft was released in November, 1996. The latest versions are NS-Shaft 1.2 (English) and NS-Shaft 1.3 (Japanese). The “future projects" page on Nagi-P’s website lists NS-Shaft for Windows, but this product has not been forthcoming.

How to play
Move the character with arrow keys and dive deeper into the cave. You will die if you fall all the way to the bottom or run out of the “life." “Life" is displayed on the upper left corner of the screen. “Life" decreases when you touch the pillards, but you can recover the “life" guage by landing on the normal floor. The names of top 5 shafters are recorded.
From “Difficulty" menu, you can select “Easy," “Normal," or “Hard." Also, you can choose whether or not certain types of floor would appear (such as “Conveyer Belt") in the game.
Please do not run other applications in the background. Applications such as SimpleText and Lancher have been found to have some problems with NS-SHAFT. If you experience other difficulties, please notify me at the address below.
